Professor He Pu Ren 贺普仁 was born on May 20, 1926, in Shigui village, Laishui county, in Hebei province. At the age of fourteen, Professor He began his study of acupuncture and Chinese medicine as an apprentice to Beijing’s most renown physician of the time, Dr. Niu Zehua. After eight years of intense study with Dr. Niu, Professor He opened his own practice.
In 1956, Professor began treating patients at the Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine 北京中医医院, eventually serving as Dean and Principal Physician of the hospital’s Acupuncture and Moxibustion department. In 1976, He joined a delegation which provided medical care to the Upper Volta and was knighted for his extraordinary skills and devoted service to its people.
Hailed as the King of Chinese Acupuncture 针灸泰斗 and First Needle Under Heaven 天下第一针, Professor He is the founder of He Style San Tong Fire Needle Acupuncture and Moxibustion (贺氏针灸三通法), the famous three methods to stimulate Qi and blood circulation and restore balance of Yin and Yang .
He published numerous works including Acupuncture Techniques, Pain Treated by Acupuncture, and A Study of Points. Professor also served as the Vice-Chairman of the China Academic Association of Acupuncture and Moxibustion and Chairman of the Beijing Academic Association of Acupuncture and Moxibustion.
In addition to acupuncture, Professor He was also an avid practitioner of Bagua Zhang. At the age of eighteen, He became an indoor disciple of Cao Zhong Sheng 曹锺升, one of the top disciples of Yin Style Bagua Zhang founder, Yin Fu 尹福.
Professor He Pu Ren passed away on August 22, 2015 in Beijing. In his 89 years, Professor He dedicated his life to the study and development of acupuncture and Chinese medicine.
